Time-amplitude Converter; CONVERTISSEUR TEMPS-AMPLITUDE

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4784068
A time-amplitude converter is described which uses a double grid control tube, 6 BN 6, whose resolution time, as measured with a pulse generator, is 5 x 10/sup -1/ s. The analysis of the response of a particle counter, made up of a scintillator and a photomultiplier, indicates that a resolution time of 5 x 10/ sup -10/ s can be obtained. A time of this order of magnitude is obtained experimentally with the converter. This converter was used in a study of the time of flight of particles in a secondary beam of Saturne. It has thus been possible to measure the energy spectra of n mesons, protons, and deuterons emltted from a polyethylene target bombarded by 1.4 and 2 Bev protons. (auth)
