IMPROVEMENTS RELATING TO FUEL ELEMENT DISCHARGING DEVICES IN NUCLEAR REACTORS

Patent ·
OSTI ID:4114913
A fuel element discharging device for a power reactor having a large number of horizontal reactor channels is described. This device comprises a series of sloping chutes into which the fuel elements to be discharged are pushed, and a brake device with helical ducts through which these fuel elements pass and in which their movement is braked so as to obtain a limited velocity. According to this addition, the device is constructed in such a way that it can be used for pressurized reactors during their operation. Therefore a collecting chamber is provided into which the fuel elements coming from the brake device enter via several ducts, as well as a gas-lock chamber receiving the fuel elements via a valve from the collecting chamber, while appropriated convexing means are provided for controlling the transfer of the fuel elements within the chambers. This convexing means is suitably of an electromagnetic vibrating type. The lock chamber serves for the transfer of the elements to the atmospheric pressure, while both the collectiag and the lock chamber form a part of a closed circuit for cooling the fuel elements during their passage.
