Uranium compositions are obtained from slags derived by the thermal reduction of basic slags in the presence of silicic acid. The method comprises the steps of adding 5 to 6 n- nitric acid to a watery suspension of the slag, of heating this mixture, which has a pH between 2 and 3, to temperatures between 70 and 80 deg C for about an hour, of separating the insoluble ingredients by filtration, and of obtaining the uranium compositions from the remains by ways known in the art.
