METHOD FOR CHEMICAL REPROCESSING WATERY URANIUM SOLUTIONS CONTAINING MOLYBDENUM
A method is described for chemical reprocessing of watery solutions of uranium containing molybdenum. Watery solutions of this type are obtained when treating uranium ores with mineral acids, The method comprises the steps of extracting the uranium content by applying a solution of secondary or tertiary alkylamine in organic solvents and then of separating the uranium from the amine solution with the help of a watery acidized salt solution. Before separating the uranium the amine extract is treated with a reducing agent so that the molybdenum contained in the solution in the form of molybdate is reduced to a valency level from which it cannot form molybdenum-amine-complexes. Sodium sulfide or sodium thiosulphate(hydrosulfite) are preferably used as reducing agents. (Gmelin Inst.)
