NUCLEAR POWER ENGINE

Patent ·
OSTI ID:4114643

The power engine described comprises a nuclear reactor, a closed primary circuit with a pressurized coolant medium that expands in a turbine and is recirculated through the core by a compressor, and a pressure vessel, which encloses these parts. The turbine and compressor are located on opposite faces of the core, and the turbine is connected with the compressor directly by a hollow shaft through which part of the primary coolant is circulated for bearing purposes. In the ring-shaped space between the surface of the core and the wall of the pressure vessel there are heat exchanger elements cooled by a secondary coolant medium. (Gmelin Inst.)
