FREE RUNNING TURBO-CIRCULATORS FOR GAS COOLED REACTORS

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4204289

Applications of gas turbine techniques to the production of power from gas-cooled reactors are considered. A scheme is presented in which a primary gas coolant circuit is used. Circulation is accomplished by a totally enclosed and sell-operating compressor-turbine system having no external shaft and therefore no seal problem. Heat is rejected through a heat exchanger to a secondary system which could be either an open or closed circuit gas turbine or a steam cycle, depending on the temperature range contemplated.
