URINARY EXCRETION OF RADIOCALCIUM $sup 45$Ca BY RATS FOLLOWING WHOLE-BODY IRRADIATION WITH X-RAYS

The influence of x irradiation on the urinary excretion of Ca/sup 45/ by rats after intervals of 6, 12, 24, 48, and 72 hr following its administration was investigated. Radiocalcium was administered in a single dose by intraperitoneal injection in the form of CaCl/sub 2/ labeled with Ca/sup 45/, in a dose of 0.1 mu C/g of body weight within 15 min after whole-body iriadiation with 600 r of x rays. It was revealed that the urinary excretion of Ca/sup 45/ in controls as well as rn rats irradiated had two peaks at about the sixth and 48th hr after administration. In irradiated animals these maximum values are, however, substantially lower as compared with controls. Thus in rats in the course of 48 hr after irradiation a decrease in the excretion of Ca/sup 45/ occurred which provides evidence of the fact that during this period radiocalcium is utilized to a greater extent.
