IMPROVEMENTS IN OR RELATING TO ION-EXCHANGE RESINS

Amphoteric ion-exchange resins containing monoallylsubstituted aminomethyl phosphonate groups can be prepared by reacting a polymer of diallyl hydrogen phosphonate with a mixture of an aliphatic aldehyde or ketone and a primary or secondary amine and then partially hydrolyzing the product. The resulting resins have a greater affinity for divalent transition metal ions than for uranyl ions and can be used for uranium separation. Details of the method of resin preparation are given in one example. (D.L.C.)
