A process for extracting metals by anion exchange is given in which the depositson of silica from the solution on the anion exchanger is matersally decreased. The process uses an anion exchange resin derived from a chlorinated organic polymer by replacing part of the chlorine groups with basic nitrogen- containing groups. A suitable polymer is polyvinyl chloride, and the resin may be prepared by aminating the polymer to the extent of 5 to 20% of the bound chlorine. The resin is selective for uranium in the presence of ferric ions as compared with a conventional polystyrene strong base resin. (D.L.C.)
