IMPROVED ANION-EXCHANGE PROCESS FOR URANIUM RECOVERY

Patent ·
OSTI ID:4144634

Anion-exchange materials for uranium recovery can be prepared in tubular form by amination of vinyl chloride polymer tubing so that >l% of the combined chlorine atoms are replaced with basic nitrogen-containing groups. In operation. the uranium solution is made to flow turbulently through the tube, and this method of uranium recovery is of value for pulpy solutions which can be pumped through the tube at a rate fast enough to keep the particles in suspension. Little mechanical loss. i.e.. attrition, occurs. An example of the amination of polyvinyl chloride tubing and its use in uranium recovery from a H/sub 2/SO/sub 4/ leach pulp of an ore is given.
