A beta-counter, intended for analyzing the BETA -activity of powdered samples of low weight, is described. The sensitive element is a cylindrical pot of scintillation plastic with an inner diameter of 16 mni and a wall thickness of 1.3 mm. The scintillator's side walls are enveloped with a layer of magnesia. During measurement the sample under investigation is placed inside the cap. The disciimination level is set at 7-15 kev according to the scale for the energy of NaI(Tl); this ensures the recording of BETA -particles with an energy of 30-50 kev and above. The use in the beta-counter of a luminophore in the form of thin- walled, scintillationplastic pot guarantees that the measurement results are little influenced by the sample's accompanying gamma radiation. The tests made with the scintillation beta-counter showed that it has a high sensitivity for determining samples of low weight. (Referativnyy zhurnal, Geofizika, No. 6, 1962)
