RADIOISOTOPES IN RADIATION PROCESSED FOOD. Semi-annual report, September 15, 1963

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4107509
Beta activity due to P/sup 33/, S/sup 35/, Ca/sup 45/, and Sr/sup 90/ was sea rched for but could not be detected in any of 18 food samples whether irradiated or nonirradiated. The foods included pork, ham, beef, chicken, and bacon exposed to Co/sup 60/ gamma radiation or electrons of energies up to 11.2 Mev. Gamma activity in the same foods and two additional foods exposed to 8.4- Mev electrons had the same spectra as unirradiated food samples. The significance of the findings is discussed. (C.H.)
