INCORPORATION OF TRITIATED THYMIDINE INTO DNA AFTER ORAL ADMINISTRATION

Journal Article · · Proc. Soc. Exptl. Biol. Med.
Parenteral tritiated thymidine (H/sup 3/TDR) was administered via a stomach tube to rats, mice, and guinea pigs. Some ingested H/sup 3/TDR was absorbed and labeled proliferating cells of gastrointestinal mucosa as early as 2 hr after ingestion in guinea pigs. Labeling of diverse tissues, including proliferative cells of the testes was seen in rats and mice 7 1/2 hr after ingestion. Some of the H/sup 3/TDR was degraded to tritiated water and small amounts of nonvolatile H/sup 3/ activity were excreted in the urine. The significance of absorption of H/sup 3/TDR through intestinal mucosa is discussed as related to potential hazard. (auth)
