PROTECTIVE ROLE OF MERCAMINE AND CYSTAMINE DURING REPEATED IRRADIATION

Journal Article · · Med. Zh. Uzbekistana
OSTI ID:4104254
Mice and rats were used to test the radioprotective effect of mercamine and cystamine. The drugs were administered intraperitoneally either before or after repeated exposure to x rays. In all instances the initial radiation dosage was 15 r and the second dose was 700 r for mice and 800 r for rats. Test animals were classed as follows: group 1, irradiated animals (controls); group 2, cystamine and mercamine injected before irradiation; and group 3, protectors used after the initial irradiation and immediately before the second exposure. Survival rates before the second exposure were 30-80% higher in group 2 than in group 1. No marked radiation protective effects were observed after the second exposure in group 3. (OTS)
