THEORETICAL COMPARISON OF IODINE-124 AND IODINE-131 THYROID DOSIMETRY

Journal Article · · Phys. in Med. Biol.

The ratio, R, of millicuries of I/sup 124/to millicuries of I/sup 13/< s1>s to deliver the same dose, in rads, to the rat thyroid was calculated, and the effects of variations in the size and shape of the gland and the biological half life were demonstrated. The geometrical factors for a cylindrical model were calculated by a modification of the method of Bush (1949). The gain factor, F, the ratio of the experimental to the theoretical values of R, is discussed in the light of the greater uniformity in dose distribution from I/sup 124/ compared to l/sup 131/.
