DETERMINATION OF CAVITATION CONDITIONS FROM DENSITY PROFILES OF MERCURY IN A VENTURI. Technical Report No. 11

OSTI ID:4097035
The extent of the cavitation in mercury flowing in a transparent, Plexiglas venturi can be determined by measuring the decrease in the attenuation of a well collimated, Co/sup 60/, gamma beam in passing through the venturi when voids resulting from cavitation are present. Experimental results for the axial fluid density profile are consistent with the visual appearance of the cavitating flow. (auth)
