CAVITATION DAMAGE IN MERCURY AND WATER IN A CAVITATING VENTURI AND OTHER COMPONENTS. Technical Report No. 9

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4128515
Comprehensive detailed data are presented principally on cavitation tests of specimens of various materials of interest inserted into a cavitating venturi. Fluids used are mercury and water. Since the water data were previously reported, emphasis is on the mercury results, but comparisons are made with water wherever possible. Hypotheses for damage mechanisms are presented and discussed in light of the experimental observations. In addition to the cavitating venturi experiments, damage results in both fluids on various other flow components are presented and discussed. (auth)
