INELASTIC INTERACTIONS BETWEEN 7 BeV $pi$$sup -$-MESONS AND NUCLEONS (in Russian)

535 pi /sup -/ N-interactions in photographic emulsion were analyzed for approximately 7 Bev mesons. A large asymmetry was observed in the c.m.s., the nucleons predominantly being emitted toward the back hemisphere. Moreover the transverse and longitudinal momenta of the emitted nucleons were found to be independent of the number of secondary charged particles. The fast pi mesons were characterized by a considerable anisotropy in the angular distribution whereas slow mesons were emitted isotropically (in the pi N c.m.s.). The mean momentum of the fast pi mesons was equal to that of the protons. The total number of produced pi mesons did not strongly depend on the number of concurrently produced charged particles. The multiplicity distribution and the mean multiplicity could be made consistent with statistical theory calculations but the angular and momentum distributions (especially for nucleons) contradicted the theory. An attempt was made to estimate the upper limit of the radius of the nuclear core. (auth)
