IONIZATION CHAMBERS FOR ACTIVATION METHOD NEUTRON FLUX DISTRIBUTION MEASUREMENTS (in Polish)

Journal Article · · Przeglad Elektron
OSTI ID:4093750
Two ionization chambers are described; a 4- pi gamma chamber and a 4- pi beta detector. The gamma chamber is 143 mm in diameter and has a reentrant sample-port that allows the sample to be located in a region almost completely (4- pi ) surrounded by the sensitive volume of the ionization chamber (20 atm argon gas). The chamber has a sensitivity of 2.7 x 10/sup -12/ amp/ mu C for Co/sup 60/ gammas, and 5.2 x 10/sup -13/ amp/ mu C for gold gammas. The chamber was designed with the range 3 x 10/sup -3/ to 10/sup -8/ amp in mind but insulation leakage limited the lowest current readings to about 10/sup -13/ amperes. The beta chamber is a pancake-shaped ionization chamber with a thin-walled sample port passing clear through the axis of the pancake. This design makes the chamber especially suited for flux mapping by activating wire samples of gold, indium, etc. (TTT)
