$gamma$-COMPENSATED NEUTRON SENSITIVE IONIZATION CHAMBER RAKJ-5-TYPE (in Polish)

Journal Article · · Przeglad Elektron
OSTI ID:4093771
The detector described consists of a coaxial cylindrical region that is neutron sensitive and within that a gammacompensation region. Both surfaces of the outer two cylindrical electrodes are coated with 0.8 mg/cm/sup 2/ of fired natural boron. The gamma-compensation region consists of a smooth outer cylindrical electrode and a grooved inner cylindrical electrode. The grooved electrode gives rise to a gamma sensitivity that is non-saturating in that the collection current is a function of interelectrode voltage. The operating voltage is chosen to give optimum gamma compensation over a wide range of gamma dosage, and current-versus-voltage curves are given for gamma fluxes up to 2.7 x 10/sup 5/ r/hr. The chamber has a sensitivity of 2 x 10/sup -14/ amp/neutron/cm/ sup 2/-see for thermal neutrons and 10/sup -11/ amperes/r/hr gamma sensitivity (uncompensated). The chamber is linear to neutron-currents of nearly 300 microamperes. (TTT)
