ALLOYS OF THORIUM WITH CERTAIN TRANSITION METALS. I. THE SYSTEMS THORIUM- RUTHENIUM AND THORIUM-RHODIUM

Journal Article · · J. Less-Common Metals
The thorium- ruthenium and thorium-rhodium binary systems were studied over the whole range of compositions in the temperature range 1000 to 1500 deg C by metallographic and x-ray methods. Four intermetallic compounds were formed between thorium and ruthenium namely, Th/sub 7/Ru/sub 3/, Th/sub 3/Ru/sub 2/, ThRu, and ThRu/sub 2/, while in the thorium-rhodium system the compounds Th/sub 7/ Rh/sub 3/, ThRh, Th/sub 3/Rh/sub 4/, Th/sub 3/Rh/sub 5/, ThRh/sub 2/, ThRh/sub 3/ , and ThRh/sub 5 / were detected. ThRh/sub 2/ undergoes a polymorphic transformation above 1200 deg C. (auth)
