Thermal behavior of epsilon-UO$sub 3$ (in Russian)

The Gibbs free energy of formation of the intermetallic phases ThRu/sub 2/, ThRu, Th/sub 3/Ru/sub 2/, and Th/sub 7/Ru/sub 3/ which exist in the system was determined by means of emf measurements using galvanic cells with solid CaF/ sub 2/ electrolyte. The following Gibbs free energies of formation were obtained for the corresponding intermetallic phases in the temperature range 1020 to 1170 deg K: ThRu/sub 2/, -11,870 + 3.24 T; ThRu, --15,300 + 3.85 T; Th/sub 3/Ru/sub 2/ , --13,450 + 2.45 T; and Th/sub 7/Ru/ sub 3/, calculated from existing thermodynamic models and correlated with the experimental results. The stability of the Th--Ru phases were compared with available thermodynamic data for other phases of the Group VIII actinide metals. (21 references) (auth)
