A study was made of cholesterol metabolism in the liver, muscles, brain, and blood. The experiments were conducted with the assistance of C/sup 14/H/sub 3/OOH, which was introduced into gainea pigs two hours previous to the acute testing in the amount of 50,000 imp/min to each g of live animal weight. On the basis of the results it was established that the content of cholesterol following irradiation, compared with the normal, is increased in the liver and blood, decreased in the brain, and practically unchanged in the muscles. The intensity of renovation of cholesterol after irradiation decreases in the liver, muscles, and brain. When Vitamin B/sub 1/ and PP is given the irradiated animal, the content of cholesterol increases in all of the organs studied, except in the blood where it diminishes. The intensity of the renovation of cholesterol in the irradiated animal given Vitamin B/sub 1/ and PP remains lowered in the liver and muscles, compared with the normal, and it noticeably increases in the brain, approximating the normal.
