MECHANISM OF DISTURBANCES OF PROTEIN AUTOLYSIS IN THE LIVER OF IRRADIATED RATS

Male rats were irradiated once (200 roentgens) using a cobalt source. The autolysis rate was determined in the liver, removed and hemolyzed in a fourfold volume of cold water, and also in homogenate of liver irradiated by various doses at a dose strength of 500 roentgens. An increase in the autolysis rate was observed upon irradiation of liver in vitro proportional to the increased autolysis temperature pend on high irradiation doses (600-500 kiloroentgens). Upon irradiation of the rats the autolysis rate increased in irradiated rats compared to unirradiated. It was proposed that disturbance of autolysis in the liver of rats irradiated by relatively low radiation doses is associated with the appearance of toxic substances of the oxidized oleic acid type.
