THE INFLUENCE OF TRAPS ON THE FLUORESCENCE MECHANISM. Thesis

Thesis/Dissertation ·
OSTI ID:4090510

The design of equipment for the measurement of short decay times with high resolution is described. To obtain a monotonous relation between luminescence after cathode ray excitation and temperature, a pressure of 10/sup - 6/ mm Hg was used and additional cooling of the cathode ray tube was necessary. Thermoluminescence in tungstates and molybdates after excitation by x rays, cathode rays, and ultraviolet light is studied. It is concluded from an analysis of decay curves that the traps are produced in a luminescent center. A configuration model for a luminescent center with traps is outlined. Luminescence in zinc oxide is discussed. (Gmelin Inst.)
