ANALYSIS OF Li$sup 6$(Li$sup 6$$,$$alpha$)Be$sup 8$ AT 3.4 Mev

Journal Article · · Physical Review (U.S.) Superseded in part by Phys. Rev. A, Phys. Rev. B: Solid State, Phys. Rev. C, and Phys. Rev. D
Angular distributions of alpha particles from Li/sup 6/(Li/sup 6/, alpha )Be/sup 8/ were obtained from five distinct alphaparticle peaks. However, only one peak, that corresponding to the 2.90-Mev state of Be/sup 8/, was positively identified. An analysis of the Li/sup 6/ + Li/sup 6/ gamma-ray spectrum with 100 times more counts than previous data indicates that no gamma ray from Be/sup 8/ exists with an intensity greater than 2 x 10/sup -5/% that of the 6.90-Mev peak from C/sup 11/ and B/sup 11/. This indicates an alpha + d configuration for Li/ sup 6/. The experiment was performed with a Van de Graaff accelerator. (auth)
