A procedure for the estimation of thorium and zirconium in aqueous or ethanol-water media employing a 30 Mc high frequency titrimeter is described. The method involves precipitation of thorium and zirconium by diammonlum hydrogen phosphate and potassium dihydrogen phosphate, respectively, Two distinct breaks are observed in the titration curves of zirconium and thorium, showing the formation of two compounds. In the case of thorium the ratio of thorium and phosphate ions in the compound formed at the first break is 1 : 1. The formation of such a compound of thorium is reported for the first time and was confirmed by analysis, and conductometric and pH titrations. (auth)
