A CONTAMINATION MONITOR FOR REACTOR FUEL RODS

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4085695
An instrument was designed to examine NPD fuel elements to ensure surface contaminations below 0.013 mu g of U/cm/sup 2/. The complete surface of each element is scanned by alpha scintillation counters. Seventeen RCA 5819 photemultipliers are mounted in halves of a Lucite block with a channel for the fuel rod. The channel is costed with a ZnS decal. The pulse circuits, gain adjustment, and calibration are described. (T.R.H.)
