CHANGES IN THE DURATION OF THE CENTRAL INHIBITORY EFFECT OF BARBITAL AND AMOBARBITAL IN IRRADIATED RATS (in Russian)

The narcotic effect of intraperitoneally administered barbital and amobarbital sets is more rapidly in rats on the sixth day following irradiation with 600 r than in nonirradiated control rats. Duration of the narcotic effect on the sixth day after irradiation with 600 r is shortened by barbital and prolonged by amobarbital. X irradiation of rats with a dose of 600 r did not change the fairly uniform distribution of C/sup 14/ barbital administered intraperitoneally in indicator quantity together with a narcotic dose of soluble barbital. Greater activity of the urine recorded 2.5 hours following administration in rats on the third and sixth postirradiation day suggests that a shortened effect of barbital occurs most probably because of its accelerated elimination from the organism. The prolongation of the narcotic effect of amobarbital in irradiated rats may be caused by the postirradiation disorder of the liver because it does not occur after administration of barbital that is eliminated by the kidney without change.
