ABS>After a short description of methods of measuring atmospheric radioactivity, the variation of the long-lived activity in the air from the summer of 1961 to the summer of 1963 is discussed. In the bounds of the common circulation process between the stratosphere and troposphere it was assumed that the radioactive aerosols cast in the stratosphere by nuclear weapons tests at high latitudes sinks rapidly into the troposphere and produced the autumn maxima in 1961 and 1962, while the aerosols from tests in lower latitudes reaches the troposphere only in the next spring. The appearance of a distinct spring maximum in 1963 and its absence in 1962 are thus explained. The strongly diminished radioactive concentration in the air during fogs was statistically established by comparison of values on days with fog and days without fog. Hot particles'' could be determined at the measuring place used only up to 4 months after suspension of nuclear weapons tests. For the same time period the specific activity of individual rainfalls is given. Showers had a greater specific activity than widespread rain. A graphic representation as well as a table underline the close relationship between precipitation and total radioactive fallout. (tr-auth)
