The composition of intermediate products produced in niobium oxide reactions with niobium carbides at 1300, Nb/sub 2/(C,O) and cubic Nb(C,O) were observed. An analysis was made of oxycarbide decomposition in vacuum at 1650 to 1700 deg C. It was found that hexagonal oxycarbide is more stable than cubic oxycarbide. (R.V.J.)
