WHOLE-BODY COUNTER FOR INTERNAL CONTAMINATION CONTROL

Journal Article · · Nukleonika (Poland)
OSTI ID:4079485
A facility for body radioactivity measurements was built and put in service in the Institute of Nuclear Research. Two scintillation counters NaI(Tl) working in a coupled detection system were used as detectors. A calibration in vivo for isotope K/sup 42/ was performed. A calibration with phantom was made for Au/sup 198/, Mn/sup 56/, K/sup 42/, and Na/sup 24/. By comparison of the energy spectra obtained for patient and for phantom it was established that phantom gives a good approximation of absorption and scattering of the radiation in the body. The dependence of the sensitivity on radiation energy was established. The K/sup 40/ and Cs/sup 137/ contents in the human body were determined. (auth)
