MEASUREMENTS WITH A WHOLE BODY COUNTER

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4811947
The design and construction of a 20 x 80 x 200 cm lead and steel chamber, used for measuring the radioactivity of human subjects, is described. The chamber contains a bed, under which are 9 plastic scintillation counters arranged so as to monitor the main sections of the body, A movable NaI(Tl) counter is also included above the bed. The K/sup 40/, Ba/sup 133/, and Cs/sup 137/ spectra of an uncontaminated subject are shown, and the spectra of Ra- and Co-contaminated subjects are also presented. The chamber is designed for determinations of neutron exposure doses and natural body burdens, for identification of radionuclides, and for other health physics researches. (T.F.H.)
