AN EVALUATION OF THE AVAILABLE TECHNIQUES FOR THE AUTORADIOGRAPHY OF TRITIUM ON CHROMATOGRAMS

The relative merits of various techniques for the autoradiography of tritium on chromatograms are considered, and compared with results obtained by impregnation methods. Sensitivity, reproducibility, and quantitation were evaluated. It was concluded that it is possible to obtain adequate autoradiographs from chromatograms of tritiumlabeled compounds by the standard technique of apposition to an x-ray film. This technique is simple, reliable, and permits quantitative estimates of radioactivity to be made, either on eluates from the chromatogram, or by densitometric measurements on the x-ray film itself.
