CRYSTAL-CHEMICAL STUDIES OF RARE EARTH FLUORIDES (in Russian)

X-ray and optical analyses were made at various temperatures of ammonium lanthanide fluorides, and their composition was determined. A comparison of the crystal and chemical properties of the rare earth trifluorides prepared by decomposition of the mixed fluorides at 600 deg with the properties of the products treated at high temperatures showed that heating affected the optical properties of rare earth fluorides. Moreover, an increased temperature induced and amplified the optical anisotropy and variations of the absorption band intensity in the infrared region. Densities and refractive indices for rare earth and yttrium fluorides are tabulated. (tr-auth)
