PROTECTION AGAINST CHEMICAL AND BIOLOGICAL AGENTS AND RADIOLOGICAL FALLOUT. Engineering and Design
Fundamental principles and criteria are presented for use in the design of structures for the protection of occupants against toxicological airborne contamination. Protection from chemical and biological agents and radiological fall-out are considered. Protective considerations, operational considerations, and factors affecting oocupancy are reviewed. Design criteria are included for entrances, personnel decontamination facilities, air-filter units, ventilation systems, and warning devices. Shielding fundamentals are discussed and the effectiveness of various structural materials as shielding against radiation is evaluated. Procedures for data collection and analysis are included, and correction factors are tabulated. (C.H.)
