BETA EMISSION FROM ORIENTED $sup 160$Tb AND $sup 166$mHo NUCLEI

Journal Article · · Physica
Experiments on the directional distribution of beta -particles emitted from oriented Tb/sup 160/ and Ho/sup 166//sup m/ nuclei are re ported and discussed. An asymmetry of about-(v/c)f/sub 1/ of the beta emission from polarized Tb/sup 160/ nuclei was found. In the case of polarized Ho/sup 166//sup m/ nuclei an asymmetry of about -8% was detected. No anisotropy of the beta - emissions from aligned Tb/sup 160/ and Ho/sup 166//sup m/ nuclei was found. It is concluded t hat the groundstate of Tb/sup 160/ has spin and parity 3-. In the case of Ho/sup 166//sup m/ several possibilities of spin and parity are rejected on the basis of the experimental results. Spin and parity of Ho/sup 166//sup m/ are probably 6-. Some considerations on the basis of the unified model are given. (auth)
