Using the exponential absorption property of beta radiation in a heavy material (gold) and the scintillation technique, the end-point energies of the isotopes Y/sup 90/, P/sup 32/, Bi/sup 210/, and Tl/sup 204/ were computed from the corresponding measured mass absorption coefficients. The results show that when fast counting is required, the scintillation counter can be used as an alternative to the Geiger-Mueller counter in the absorption method of measurement of end-point energies.
