An aperture was used to reduce the number of beta particles arriving at an end-window-type Geiger-Mueller counter. The aperture, an Al plate having a hole at its counter, was inserted between the sample and the counter. S/sup 35/, Ca/sup 45/, Tl/sup 204/, P/sup 32/, and Sr/sup 90/- Y/sup 90/ were employed as beta sources. The reduction coefficients of apertures with various geometrical factors such as thickness, diameter, and location were determined for each isotope. Graphical data showing the relationship between the reduced counting rate and the radioactivity are given. The measurable level for Tl/sup 204/ was 500 mu c max with an error of less than 20%, (OID)
