IMPROVEMENTS IN NUCLEAR FUEL ELEMENTS

Patent ·
OSTI ID:4072416
A process for fabrication of plate assembly type fuel elements is given which solves the problems of cladding material corrosion, fabrication of hard nonannealed materials, and warpage during fabrication. This process simply consists of bending or otherwise deforming the edges of the fuel plates so that, when they are inserted into the grooves of the side plates, friction between the edges and grooves holds the plates in place. In this way, the need for brazing and its associated problems are avoided. (D.L.C.)
