A type of control rod for a vertical fuel-channel reactor is described that is mounted on the ends of the fuel elements. The device is made of concentric annular carriers with either boron material or cadmium- silver alloy as the neutron absorber so that by relative motion of the carriers the amount of overlap of effective neutron absorbent area can be varied in relation to the temperature in a reactor zone to affect control. Application is made to plutonium production reactors that exhibit positive moderator temperature coefficient of reactivity. (R.E.U.)
