HEAT CAPACITIES OF THE METALS TERBIUM AND HOLMIUM BELOW 1 K

Journal Article · · Physica

The heat capacities of terbium and holmium metal were studied between 0.05 and 0.9 deg K. In this temperature region the main portion of the nuclear spin entropy is removed and quite accurate values for the parameters of the hfs interaction can be obtained from the experimental data. The results for the magnetic and the electric hfs parameters respectively are a' = +0.320 plus or minus 0.005 deg K, P = +0.008 plus or minus 0.0015 deg K for Ho, a' = +0.152 plus or minus 0.002 deg K, P = +0.013 plus or minus 0.004 deg K for Tb.
