The sintering capacity of blocks of U oxides to UO/sub 2/ starting powder of stoichiometric composition or to weakly oxidized powder was raised by adding sufficient amorphous UO/sub 3/ powder in a ball mill before presijng to give a final mixture of the ratio O/sub 2/ : U = 2.18. A 1% polystyrene benzene solution was added as binder. The mass was compressed under a pressure of 1500 kg/cm/sup 2/ and sintered at 1000 deg C in an H/sub 2/ atmosphere or in another protective medium. (Referativnyy Zhurnal, Khimiya, No. 22, 1962)
