A THEORY OF THERMOLUMINESCENCE OF FLUORITE (CaF$sub 2$:Y). RADIATIVE RECOMBINATION FROM HIGHLY ASSOCIATED ELECTRON-HOLE PARIS

Fluorite (CaF/sub 2/: Y) was irradiated with 2.5-Mev electrons at 77 deg K for 4 hours, during which time the temperature was increased to 273 deg K. The resulting spectrum from Y/sup 3+/ capture of electrons and subsequent radiative recombination with holes trapped by F/sup 0/ or O/sup -1/ is shown to be the same as the normally reported thermoluminescence of fluorite.
