TRITIATED THYMIDINE TOXICITY IN MAMALIAN SYSTEMS

Tritiated thymidine has received wide usage during the past five years, with varied concern for its toxicity. Current literature is reviewed for evidences of tritiated thymidine toxicity when administered to mammalian systems. Included are unpublished observations of the authors. Mutagenesis, carcinogenesis, growth inhibition, various cytological anomalies, and cell death were observed following exposure to tritiated thymidine. Problems of calculating radiation dose from tritiated thymidine are mentioned, and the suggestion is made that considerable caution is needed in its use. (auth)
