In view of reports of malignant tumors resulting from the use of Thorotrast for arteriography in man, experiments were conducted in rats injected with colloidal ThO/sub 2/. Granulomas developed after subcutaneous or intraperitoneal injections of ThO/sub Z/, and in 16 to 23% of the rats, depending on the site of injection, sarcomas developed from the granulomas. The highest percentage of malignancy (23%) was noted after subcuthneous injection, and 60% of rats so injected died within one year. (BBB)
