(d,/cap alpha/) REACTIONS ON SOME LIGHT NUCLEI AT 13 MeV

Angular distributions of alpha particles from the reactions B/sup 1//sup 0/(d, alpha )Be/sup 8/, B/sup 1//sup 0/(d, alpha )Be/sup 8/*, F/sup 1//sup 9/(d alpha )O /sup 1//sup 7/,and F/sup 1//sup 9/(d, alpha )O/sup 1//sup 7/* are studied with 13 Mev deuterons, by means of a thin scintillator technique. The results for B/sup 1//sup 0/ and F/sup 1//sup 9/ show a forward peaked distribution. An attempted fit in terms of the Butler theory indicates a predominancy of direct procseses in the mechanism of these reactions. The angular distribution for the reaction Al/sup 2//sup 7/(d, alpha )Mg/sup 2//sup 5/ is also measured, but it is not possible to separate the alpha particles corresponding to the ground and the low lying excited states of Mg/sup 2//sup 5/. The absolute value of the differential cross section is also measured in all cases. (auth)
