EFFECT OF IONIZING RAYS ON THE METABOLISM OF CELLS

Effects of x irradiation on Yoshida's sarcoma including wandering single cells were investigated with Warburg's apparatus. The respiration of Yoshida's sarcoma was slightly inhibited by irradiation in doses of 5,700 r. An increase of endogenous respiration, however, was sometimes observed, when the cell density was below 600 or above 950 cu mm. Aerobic sugar decomposition was more inhibited than respiration. Anaerobic sugar decomposition was most sensitive. (Abstr. Japan. Mod., 1: No. 1, 1960)
