EFFECT OF RADIATION ON FRUCTOSE PRODUCTION IN SEMEN

Journal Article · · Nippon Hinyokika Gakkai Zasshi (Japan)
OSTI ID:4044337

The fructose content of semen was below normal in 5 of the 14 atomic bomb survivors examined, and in 3 of these the blood sugar level was also lower than normal. After total body x irradiation of mice, no change was observed in the weight of the seminal vesicles, but their fructose content and the blood sugar level gradually decreased as the dosage was increased. These changes gradually returned to normal by the 7th day after irradiation. Almost the same findings were noted when x irradiation was confined to the testes of mice. (Abstr.
