Three groups of guinea pigs irfected with R. prowazeki were irradiated with a single dose of x rays as follows: group 1, 400 r, 1-3 months after recovery; group 2, 300 r, 16 days after infection; group 3, 300 r, 3--5 days prior to infection. Infected nonirradiated animals were used for controls. Severe leukopenia appeared in group 1 flve to six days after irradiation. However, the agglutinin titers in group l were similar to those in the controls. The agglutinin titers remained unchanged in group 2; no specific antibodies or rickettsia were detected. The aggiutinin titers were 1 to 2 dilutions higher in group 3 than in the controls and the sera of two animals agglutinated with R. prowazeki in 1 : 160 and 1: 320 dilutions. (OTS)
